The Core of Education had the pleasure of attending the National Summit on Education Reform presented by The Foundation for Excellence in Education. One of the most memorable moments was the keynote address given by former U.S. Solicitor General Ted Olson. Olson successfully represented presidential candidate George W. Bush in the Supreme Court case Bush v. Gore, which effectively ended the recount of the contested 2000 Presidential election. He served his post as Solicitor General under President Bush from 2001-2004.
We had the opportunity to discuss his latest case, Vergara v. California, and work with Students Matter . The case to strike down state laws that restricts California from implementing a new teacher career system more keenly focused on elevating teacher quality, raising the prestige of the teaching profession, and promoting equal access to quality education for all students.
