The Core sat down with our friend Dr. Kecia Ray in London at BETT last week. Kecia has quickly become a leading voice in district, federal and international levels of education discourse. Along with her efforts at ISTE, Kecia serves as the Executive Director of Learning and Technology for Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS), she is also a part of the Governors Advisory Council of Alternative Education and she also serves on the Board of Directors for Tenn-Share.
Kecia talks about her impressions of BETT, shares insights on ISTE’s upcoming international conference in Atlanta and her views on the hottest topics in education technology. Those who have not yet been introduced to ISTE will get a wonderful flavor for the organization, its’ members and current initiatives driving growth in membership and collaboration.
Later today Kecia will help welcome President Obama as he visits McGavock High School in Nashville. McGavock has been reported as a shining example of the high school redesign through the Academies of Nashville that has been underway locally since 2005. Since that time, graduation rates in zoned high schools have jumped more than 20 percentage points. Watch President Obama’s speech live below.
